Market

[Market] A Heartwarming Café in Marburg, Germany

This is 'Market' — a soul-warming café I stumbled upon in Marburg, Germany.

It was a bitterly cold winter day. The snow had been falling for a while, my feet were aching, and my shoes were completely soaked through. I was desperately looking for somewhere to warm up when I wandered in here by chance — and walked out with not just my body warmed, but my heart too.

Here's the menu. My friend ordered a hot chocolate, and I went with a warm cup of tea.

We snagged a window seat. 😄 It had a perfect view of what I believe was Marburg's main square, lined with old German buildings that were just wonderful to look at. There was a radiator right beneath the window too, which was perfect for thawing out our frozen feet.

My friend's hot chocolate was something else — genuinely luxurious. Completely different from the powdered hot chocolate back home in Korea. Rich, deep, real chocolate flavor. A life-changing hot chocolate, honestly. My tea was also beautifully brewed and hit the spot.

Here's a look at the interior. When we visited, a family was having a meal at the center table. Looking at the menu, there were quite a few traditional German home-style dishes on offer — if I hadn't already eaten, I definitely would have ordered a proper meal.

And the hallway leading to the restroom — full of that unmistakable German charm.

Warm wooden interiors, a cozy atmosphere, and that distinctly German sensibility — it was as much a great restaurant as it was a café.

On a freezing winter day with snow falling heavily outside. On the quiet streets of Marburg, where the only sound was the soft accumulation of snow.

'Market' was the café that wrapped its warmth around me just when I needed it most.
